Shared identity is a term I use to describe how I feel like one identity in two separate bodies. Although there isn’t a dictionary definition for shared identity, Nick Johnson describes it as the collective identity formed from newfound diversity, connecting us to the broader society (Johnson, N. 2007).

In this short essay, I will discuss my experience with going to the Artist Talk – Lindsay Seers before experiencing the physical exhibition Care(less). Although it’s recommended to go to the exhibition before the talk, I attended the talk on 15th February 2020 and didn’t experience the work until 17th February 2020. 

Figure 1 features two grayscale photographic portraits of identical twins, Jane and Louise Wilson. There gaze directed at the viewer; who can slightly see themselves due to the print being on a mirrored surface. Painted directly on each of their faces are several black and white rectangles, the arrangement and sizes differ on each Wilson twin. This overall layer is slightly transparent, revealing a CCTV image that’s layered underneath.
